On October 24,1492, Christopher Columbus heard the word Cuba but misunderstood it for COLBA, he wrote in his journal:
"I wanted to fill with water all the receptacles on board of our ship... and then sail to another island, much larger, which I think must be Cipango ( Ancient name given to Japan), according to what these Indians tell they call it "COLBA". Two days later Columbus rectifies himself and writes that the name of the Island paradise was CUBA!
